Hey everybody!!

I have a JCW car which has a (~) 11% reduction pulley (i.e. a standard JCW pulley which is 11% smaller cf stock S pulley size). My car was build prefacelift in 04 so will have the non-teflon coated Supercharger. When my car got the JCW upgrade it was the 200 version (i later added the kit to bring it to 210), so I assume it wont have been given the teflon coaten SC that later works cars are given? or did all JCW kits get the latest generation SC and the only difference between them (the 200 and 210 kit) is the air filter/injectors?

I was thinking of getting the JCM 225 kit but it has a 19% pulley which I dont like so was thinking of getting a custom JCM 225 kit - i.e. it has the mani cat and upgraded supercharger but with a 15% pulley....

...but I wanted to know what the actual gains are likely to be.... the difference in standard s (with the different SC - pre/post facelift) went from 163 to 170 some of this due to ecu changes im sure but the rest down to the SC (?) so if we assume about 5bhp for the SC (if i dont already have the gen5 SC???) what sort of increase are we likely to get from the 15% pulley???

In short:

1. What gen SC will I have - is there a way to tell from looking at it (without looking at the internals)?

2. What are the likely BHP gains from going from 11% pulley to a 15% pulley?

3. What are the likely torque gains from going from 11% pulley to a 15% pulley?

4. Does any of this make sense or am I typing too quickly cos im at work??? :) :) :)

Help/advice is appreciated.

Hey Keano,

If yours is a works then it'll have the latest gen supercharger with the teflon coated blades :)

I suppose from a 11% to a 15% reduction might give you about an extra 20bhp, just depends on other factors (cooling, engine condition etc)

But the main thing is, you'll notice a difference!

Hi David!

So do all works cars, regardless of when the kit was fitted, have the latest gen SC?

ask modnmini they will give you the answer you seek

Aparently all works cars come with a 5gen sc...

What pulley options are there (in terms of make)? Any that look like standard?

To be honest unless you've got a trained eye you won't see a difference (look wise) of a changed supercharger pulley, go with Alta, GTT etc.

They usually come in -15%, -17% and -19%. -15% and -17% Seem to be the common ones. Remember you may need a re-map to take full advantage of the modifications, give ModnMini a call/email.

The reduced weight of the new pulley will also be a big factor :)

Cheers David.

Am leaning towards a 15% pulley but am wondering if changing the pulley is sacrilege on a JCW car... a little extra power never hurt anyone surely :) better than fitting a lightened crank pulley though. What are peoples thoughts on this?

Go for the 15% pulley... A cheap way to get more power...

The lightened crank pulley will make your car more responsive, but not give you anymore power :)

Good point david. score 2 for the SC pulley. :)

Has anybody got an opinion as to which to go for 17 or 15% reduction?

In short i am going to get some work done on my S and thought id change the pulley at the same time. Car will have a milltek exhaust put on it and a JCW airbox, but wondering if a remap will be needed in order to get the most out of a pulley change in light of reading David's comments.

Want to have a bit of an idea before i call modnmini to get prices etc.

i was leaning more towards the 15% as it is a little safer but that is probably more a reflection of me than anything ese... with the pulley you are more than likely to need a reduced gates belt and probably some new plugs.

not sure about a remap - check with 1320 autos on that one, if not modnmini.

I've got 15% pulley with Borla Exhaust, Janspeed Mani and GRS IC, the standard map handles things very well...

I believe there is a fine divide when you got for the 17% reduction, sometimes you require a new map and sometimes you don't.. Its all very engine specific.

Best to talk to ModnMini about this one, i'm sure they'll be able to shed some light on the situation :)

I shall do that - just a quickie though - do either of them require a changed intercooler due to running slightly hotter?

My wife is so gonna kill me when she finds out how much im spending!!

Dont think you have to with either as there are quite a few people running 17% with stock IC but if you can stretch to it I think it would definately be worth it...
If it were me I would get an uprated IC if I was going 15% or smaller. Ive got a GP IC on my JCW jsut to keep things a bit cooler :)
