tweeters?

so gutted. blew a tweeter the other day and now its jus farting out sound. phoned up the dealers to get a price on a pair and they quoted me 90+vat as its the harman upgrade ones.

anyone fitted anything other than harman in replacement, is it even possible to do so as the dealer advised that anything else wont fit? dont really fancy paying that.

get the Harman ones, my last 2 MINI's had Harman Kardon and its bloody awesome ! well woth the ££'s

She surely has Dave.. shame its not an option on the R56's ..it dosent go up too loud, but the quality is awesome ! :icecream:

The Hi-fi system on the R56 is a H/K system IIRC- just not branded.

from what I keep reading the quality of the hifi on the R56 is more Amstrad :typing:

So why was i told it was no longer an option ? surely this would make better sense from a sales point of view?
And i agree Mark, the new stereos are tinny and not all that so i wonder about them claiming its H/K????

Ok to be more precise its done by Harmon / Becker but its a sister company of Harmon / Kardon... (Harmon is the parent company - owns a few brands such as JBL too BTW)

H /K products are apparently thought of as better than H / B products... but I couldnt say one way or another...


In terms of the sales point you make - it would only make sense if the H/K from the R53 was ONLY thought of as superb... it has its critics so perhaps they are getting a fresh start... I wish I had H/K or the DPSM :(

Wish I had hk or dpsm too. I was going to get it retro fitted but then I am told for less than half the price you can get a wicked sound system. But seeing as I hardly ever listen to music in her I dunno?

Im not saying H/K is the best, by all means i dont really have a comparison, my MINI's have all had H/K and when i heard the stereo in R56's and standard MINI thats where i drew my conclusions :)

Absolutely mate - I thought I had come accross a cheap source for the DPSM (fully fitted for £600) but it turned out not to be only for the wave stereo, boost stereo the conversion is more for some bizarre reason....????

Anyhow, the kits were just too expensive so I dont know why they bothered offering them really - at least from a retrofit point of view...

As you say you can get a pretty good system (amp and speakers) for about £500 fitted... Its an obvious choice when the DPSM is just shy of £1k just for parts!!!! :ohmy:

I think that alot of the stereos just need to be adjusted properly to get the best out of them... My boost system is pretty poor but by adjusting the levels I have got it to a point where Im happy (or to put it another way to a point where I can keep the £500-600 and happily spend it on other mods :))

Perhaps the R56 HI-fi just needs to be set up correctly - the number or loan cars Ive been in where the treble has been racked right up to full and the balance sent to the front.... just ruins the sound when set up like this IMO :fish:

Totally agree ! Take Steves Porsche , not the most expensive of porsche's but still.. the stereo sounded crap ! untill we both sat in the car and i adjusted the sound ... on a par? id say theres not much difference now...
There are lots of better qualty 'sounds' out there, depends where you want to spend it i suppose ? i could get some CF goodies for the price of a new stereo...hmmmm... lol

As for R53 H/K Vs R56 HiFi, the H/K has the HiFi beaten everywhere! The difference is incredible! The standard speakers on the R56 are terrible though.
